 Save-the-Date

  • The 2025 Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Banquet is scheduled for Friday, January 31 at 6:00 PM. Check with the Chamber for more details and to purchase tickets.  To order your tickets, please email the Chamber at lamarchamberofcommerce@gmail.com to inquire and a Board Member will be by to see you. Keep up-to-date with the Chamber at Lamar Chamber FB.
  • The High Plains Snow Goose Festival is scheduled for Monday, February 6th through Thursday, February 9th, 2025. While the event attracts visitors from all over the United States, local residents are encouraged to attend.  For more information, and to see this year's schedule, visit https://highplainssnowgoose.com.

Congratulations to Casa Azteca on its Ribbon Cutting.  Casa Azteca is located at 1301 S. Main Street.

Congratulations to The Smoky Moon Lounge on your Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting! Smoky Moon is located at 113 W. Beech Street.

Congratulations to the Tilted Tee on your Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting! The Tilted Tee is located at 105 W. Elm, directly west of Las Brisas Restaurant.

Located at 1002 North Main Street, the Lamar Arby’s opened its doors on Monday, January 6th, 2025. The ribbon cutting was held at 9:00 AM.

Upcoming Grand Openings

The McClave State Bank is under construction.

Other changes coming to Lamar in 2025

  • New owners bought La Lupitas and reopened as Los Juniors Restaurant in the same location at 1010 East Olive on January 2, 2025.
  • Andy & Melissa Felan, former owners of La Lupitas Restaurant, have transitioned completely to the AM Breakfast House location at 410 S. Main Street. 

Staff Changes

Please welcome the following new employees who have joined our team recently.

Brenda May joined our team on November 11, 2024. She is our new Main Street Manager and Events Coordinator. She is excited to work with the whole community to enhance the Main Street district.

Courtney W. Recio joined our team on December 9, 2024 as our new Communications and Marketing Assistant. She is excited to use her skills in graphic design, web design and writing to promote the growth and success of our small town. When Courtney is not working, she loves to spend time with her husband, and their four kids.

Lamar Police Department Staffing: The LPD has undergone an extensive reorganization under Chief Fear.  Changes include: 

  • Jamison Sherrill is now Commander of Operations
  • Kevin Ridder has rejoined LPD as Commander of Support Services
  • Corey Reamy, Austin Peck, and join Ray Macias and PJ Wilson as Patrol Sergeants
  • Detectives Branden Kemp and Steve Sanger join Sergeant Chad Miller in Investigations 
  • Omar Carrillo, Rebeca Castillo, Jaime P. Madrid, and Ernesto Maldonado Jr have graduated from the academy and are currently in field training. 

City Council News

Lamar City Council met for its last meeting of 2024 on December 9th. During the council meeting, the VALE grant was discussed. The City will use grant funds for the Victims Assistance program and officer training.

Scooter's Coffee held a fundraiser on December 11th, 2024 to benefit the Lamar Animal Shelter, raising over $3,400.00.

The Council approved an agreement between the Lamar Re-2 School District and the Lamar Police Department. The LPD will provide security services for Lamar High School after-hour events. This is an annual agreement starting January 1 and running through December 31, 2025.

The Council also approved an incentive agreement for a new Denny’s restaurant. The new restaurant will be located at 805 N. Main, the old Burger King. Renovation and construction are scheduled to begin soon with an opening in mid-2025.

Ask, Learn, Know

The Lamar City Council welcomes community members’ attendance at its meetings. Many are designed to have conversation, while regular City Council meetings are usually focused on completing the business of the City. Learn more about these meetings and how to engage with YOUR council on the City’s new webpage designed to strengthen opportunities for constructive interaction between Council and residents.

>> Engage with City Council

  • Common Grounds (with the Lamar City Council and staff) is a great opportunity to speak directly to Council members and key staff. These meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 am in the Cultural Events Center.  The next Common Grounds will be on February 5th and will feature the Lamar Police Department and affiliated divisions. 
  • Regular City Council meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Mondays each month at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers.
  • Coffee with Rob occurs on the 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 7:00 am at rotating locations in the City of Lamar.
